What is a Charter School?
In Massachusetts, charter schools are public, tuition-free schools. They are independently operated, while remaining accountable to the state for delivering a high-quality education and demonstrating strong student outcomes.
Charter schools were created in response to growing concerns about public education. The idea was to give educators the freedom to try new approaches, give families more public-school choices, and create schools that could challenge the traditional system to improve.
MCCPS: A School Where Students Belong
Established in 1995, MCCPS is a tuition-free public school for students in grades 4–8 built around interactive learning, inquiry, community service, the arts, and the development of the whole child.
Our goal is simple: to help students become confident, capable, curious, and engaged learners who are prepared for high school and beyond.
