Q: How many students attend MCCPS?
A: 230, grades 4th-8th
Q: How often is music and art offered?
A: Music is offered twice a week for 45 minutes (90 minutes/week total) for each advisory group. Art is offered once a week for 90 minutes.
Q: How much homework do students have per day?
A: There is homework at every grade level. The amount ranges from 45 minutes to 1 ½ hours depending upon the day, the child’s speed/comfort with the material, and the proximity to Exhibition. We look to parents to communicate about how it goes at home.
Q: Do you have fundraisers?
A: Yes, we fundraise. Some of the money is used for trips that the students take such as Nature’s Classroom (6th grade), and Canada, (8th).Our Events Coordinator schedules the fundraisers.
Q: What languages do you teach?
A: Historically French has been taught to all grades. This year we added Spanish in 4th and 5th grades, and we hope to offer it to other grades next year. The Rosetta Stone program was recently launched for all students.
Q: How do you on MCAS scores?
A: We score 30% higher and do very well for the diversity of our population We have children who come from all over the North Shore, the longer they remain in our program the better chances of success. We conduct NWEA testing at the beginning and end of the year to measure student growth over the year.
Q: Professional Development
A: 10 full days and 5 half days of professional development are scheduled. Topics come from student/staff needs. Working lunches are scheduled for the departments, and 7 hours each week is reserved for professional development and planning.
Q: Where do graduates go for high school?
A: Most students go to their town public high school. Many students go to private high schools. Some also go to area charter, technical, and agricultural high schools. We help parents and students with high school decisions and course selections. Many take the SSATS and Catholic Schools Entrance Tests for private school entry. We invite a wide range of high schools to come in and talk to the 8th grade.
Q: Do you have students come back to visit?
A: Yes! Alumns drop in at all times. They even come back and volunteer their time. We don’t keep records as to the numbers. When they visit, they look for their commendations and art work on the walls and share stories of how much Charter meant to them.
Q: PTO Fundraising
A: The PTO’s focus is community building. Some fundraising occurs to support specific items or events.
