October 11, 2007

Minutes

In attendance: 

Kay O’Dwyer, Cynthia Canavan, John McEnaney, Emil Ronchi, Cathy Vaucher, Pam Wheaton Shorr, Robert Sousa, Chris Fauci.    Not Present: Dr. John Sullivan and Nina Cullen-Hamzeh.    Also present was Dr. Albert Argenziano.

Location:  Ms. Miller’s Classroom at the Marblehead Community Charter Public School, 17 Lime St, Marblehead MA 01945

The Chair, Ms Kay O’Dwyer opened the meeting at 7:10 P.M.  She reminded the Board that is the second session of a two to three session retreat to be completed over the coming weeks, but that there were two items of business to attend to first: a vote on the contract for the Interim Academic Director, and a presentation from the Personnel Committee.

Ms Vaucher raised a brief question about the agenda for the 2007 Annual Fall Charter Leader Meeting in Shrewsbury Massachusetts.  Ms O’Dwyer provided a brief overview of the agenda, and asked as many the Trustees as possible to plan on attending and to let her know if they would be attending.

Decision:  Ms. Shorr moved and Ms Canavan seconded a motion that the Board approves the terms of the contract being offered to Nina Cullen Hamzeh as effective September 10, 2007. 

The Chair called a recess at 8:55 PM

The Chair called the session back to order at 9:15 PM

The motion was tabled to Executive Session

Decision:  Ms. O’Dwyer moved and Mr Sousa seconded that the Committee enter Executive Session under Exception 3 of the Open meeting law:  "To discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining or litigation if an open meeting may have a detrimental effect on the bargaining or litigating position of the governmental body, to conduct strategy sessions in preparation for negotiations with nonunion personnel, to conduct collective bargaining sessions or contract negotiations with nonunion personnel."

Ms Shorr – Yes, Mr. Ronchi – Yes, Mr. Sousa – Yes Ms Canavan – Yes; Ms O’Dwyer – Yes; Mr. McEnaney – Yes, Ms Vaucher – Yes.

The Chair noted that the Board of Trustees will not return to open session at the conclusion of Executive Session. 

The Chair also invited Dr. Argenziano to participate in Executive Session

The Chair adjourned the meeting to Executive Session 9:20.
